Support to expand your export education activities
»The next phase of the support package

» Quick Links

Welcome

Kia Ora,

This is a special issue of E-News to introduce the first phase of a package of support activities we have planned for you.

This support package will look at various ways in which we can help you develop your international strategies, improve your reach into existing markets, and explore new opportunities.

The first phase of this is to ask you to provide or update your institution/organisation profile on the New Zealand Educated website.

We also want to hear from you if you’re looking to expand your export education activities.

Please provide or update your profile

Please help us by providing or updating your profile on the New Zealand Educated website. There’s no charge and it will take you just one minute to get started.

If you already have a profile
If you have a profile, check your information is up-to-date here.

If you see that it needs updating, simply email: vince.warnock@educationnz.govt.nz

If you don’t yet have a profile
If your organisation doesn’t have a profile yet, the first step is to fill in your contact details and profile here.

Remember, your profile needs to be suitable for someone who speaks English as a second language, although some website content is translated into local language where applicable (languages include Chinese-traditional, Chinese-simplified, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Korean and Japanese). We’re happy to assist you with developing your profile, depending upon your marketing focus.

If you are a business that sells education products or services
If you are an education services provider we would like to hear from you too, please contact ExportEd@educationnz.govt.nz.

If possible, please do this by 19 May 2012.

We will take a few weeks to check through your information, and if we haven’t heard from you we may contact you to find out more.

Updated profiles will then be on our website by early June at the latest.

Thank you for your time!

Why should I have a profile on the website?

It’s how students find out about you
One of the main ways in which international students find out about studying in New Zealand is through our New Zealand Educated website – so it’s really important that we have an up-to-date profile on our website for every education institution or organisation that’s involved in international education.

We need readily accessible information about you and what you can offer international students so that we can point prospective students towards your organisation.

Together we are more effective
The New Zealand Educated website is a key portal for both online and print promotion, which means it can be more widely promoted internationally than any one institution’s website.

By taking the time to create a profile on the site, individual institutions can get a return from all our promotion investment.

A key part of your own marketing activities
For those of you that don't have a website or dedicated information for international students, you can share an online presence through the New Zealand Educated website.

Increased reach
We’re also increasing our web presence on global search engines and through using more online promotional techniques to market education opportunities to students who don’t attend our student fairs.

It can save you time
From a practical perspective, when we put together brochures for in-country marketing and events, we would like to use the profile information on the website rather than having to request an updated profile from you each time you participate in an education fair or other activity.

A snapshot of how many people are seeing you
We monitor the activity of all our student websites on a monthly basis. Here's an example of who was looking at the New Zealand Educated website during March:

  • Over 93,500 unique visitors (that means people who have never been to the website before)
  • Each visitor spent over 2 minutes on average on the site
  • They viewed an average of 3 pages per visit
  • Visitors came from (in order): China, New Zealand, India, Colombia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil and South Korea
More than half of the visitors from the following countries used their mobile phones to access the site: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea.

Support to expand your export education activities

imageWe are keen to hear from institutions or businesses who are interested in expanding their export education activities.

We would like to hear from those of you who want to:

  • develop a new market
  • explore a new business model or structure
  • set up a partnership with other New Zealand based organisations
  • expand your modes of delivery
  • increase the scale of an overseas operation.

We’re particularly interested in helping groups to collaborate in pursuing export education opportunities.

There is a range of ways in which we may be able to help. For example we can:

  • set up capability-building opportunities to help ensure a higher chance of success
  • test the ideas you have using the information and intelligence we have about particular markets
  • facilitate connections with other organisations who are either already active in that market or are looking for a partner to take the next step
  • put you in touch with people on the ground who can identify offshore partners for you to meet
  • look at whether we can provide you with matched funding to help mitigate the risks of starting up a new venture.

The Export Education Innovation Programme (EEIP) has been available since 2004 as a means of supporting organisations to pursue a new export education venture. Education New Zealand is reviewing the mechanisms by which we provide assistance to New Zealand education exporters, as part of taking a more strategic and enhanced approach to industry support.

We envisage being able to tailor a range of support activities to best fit the needs of a particular venture, organisation or group of organisations.

This suite of support is being developed, and will incorporate funding previously available through an EEIP funding round.

We need to understand where your growth aspirations are so that we can support you and assess where best to provide our contribution.

The first step is to talk to us about your plans and ideas.

You can email us at ExportEd@educationnz.govt.nz or ring Jane Collier on 04 913 9597 or Jules Annear on 04 917 0538.

The next phase of the support package

imageThe next phase of our support package will be to take a comprehensive look at how we maintain an up-to-date picture of what you want from us – both in terms of where you are looking to market to students, and where you are looking for export education opportunities that are outside student recruitment.

So for the next phase, we will be sending you a survey that will ask you for information on various aspects of your business.

The aim of this will be to gain a picture of what markets you are currently active in, and what ones you’re looking to move into – and what help and support you’d like from us to do this. It will also enable us to be as responsive as possible to the international education industry, and identify development needs and opportunities at home and offshore.

The information we collect will be for internal use only by us, so that we can provide the most relevant services and support to you.

Further information on this phase of support will come out in the next issue of E-News at the beginning of May.
