We’re only two weeks away from the 20th New Zealand International Education Conference at Sky City in Auckland on August 11-12. Space is filling up quickly so if you haven’t yet registered, don’t delay.
It’s a year of big changes in the export education sector, and we’ll have speakers representing all of the departments involved to make sure you’re up to date on what’s happening. We’ll also have several offshore representatives speaking about key markets, and, along with the ENZ team, what’s in store for the promotion of New Zealand education around the world. |

| 2011 New Zealand International Education Conference |
| |
|
Every year our New Zealand International Education Conference delegates tell us that one of the best things about attending is the opportunity to network face-to-face with their peers from all around New Zealand.
To give you the opportunity to catch up with your colleagues, we have included these social events in our Conference programme: Welcome Drinks on the evening of Wednesday, August 10, and our Gala Dinner on Thursday, August 11. We look forward to seeing you there.
Of course the sessions are the main attraction, and this year we have some fantastic speakers lined up. You're sure to come away feeling informed and inspired.
You can view the Conference programme HERE
and register for Conference HERE.
The International Education Excellence Awards will be presented to the winning institutions on the morning of Friday, August 12. Our special guest speaker Sir Ray Avery will present the awards.
The Platinum Sponsor for this year's Conference is ANZ. We'd like to thank them for their support.

Following on from Conference, staff from Education New Zealand and the Ministry of Education will accompany three Brazilian speakers on a road show to Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Tauranga. This project was instigated, and has been primarily funded by MFAT under the Latin America Strategy, with support from Education New Zealand and the Ministry of Education.
Brazil is New Zealand’s largest source of students from Latin America and has plenty of potential for further growth. One of the key recommendations to advance New Zealand’s profile as a quality provider of international education in Brazil is to encourage New Zealand education institutions to market more strongly in Brazil. This session aims to raise awareness of Brazil’s potential and provide perspectives on how to best approach the market.
Leading speakers from the Brazilian Education & Language Travel Association (BELTA, Agents’ Association), Association of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions’ Offices for International Relations (FAUBAI) and Paula Souza State Centre of Technological Education (CPS) will cover information relevant for all sectors. BELTA Agents actively promote all sectors of education; they send the majority of their students to ELS, PTE and the senior years at Secondary Schools. FAUBAI and CPS will be of particular relevance to New Zealand tertiary institutions, especially universities and ITPs who are interested in long term partnerships with compatible Brazilian organisations.

Maura Leão - BELTA
Renée Zicman - FAUBAI
Simone Ramos - CPS

North Asia Mission, 27 October – 6 November
Education New Zealand is leading a Mission to North Asia starting in late October. This is an ideal opportunity to promote your school in Asia to New Zealand’s top-performing education agents. Made up of five Agent Seminars, two Student Workshops and a New Zealand Education Fair, in four key markets for international students, the full trip will run for thirteen days. The complete itinerary includes Hong Kong, the Taiwanese cities of Taipei and Kaohsiung, Tokyo and Seoul. A shorter trip is an option for those who wish to select fewer cities.
This is an ideal event for those new to International Education Marketing or looking to update their agent contacts. There’s no better way to establish new agent relationships than with face to face meetings. The group will be led by an Education New Zealand staff member, and will receive marketing advice in advance to aid preparation and further market briefings and assistance along the way.
Those participating in all North Asia Mission events will receive a 10% discount off the overall participation cost.
There have been changes of dates due to clashes with competitors’ events in country.
Register quickly as some events are now filled to capacity, registrations are due by Monday 1 August. Many of the cities were filled to capacity last year, meaning some missed out, so register early to avoid disappointment.

 |
Education New Zealand is hosting the “Earth Food” cooking competition for international students on Saturday, September 17 in Auckland. The event will attract international visitors attending the Rugby World Cup. The competition will be held at the foot of Queen Street, where there will be substantial foot traffic. This provides a fantastic opportunity to get exposure for your institution and your region among international visitors.
The “Earth Food” competition is a twist on the traditional New Zealand hangi. All teams will be given traditional hangi meats and vegetables, and they will add their own international twist to create a fusion delicacy.
Each team should consist of two international students and one supervising staff member from the same institution. The participants don’t need to be chefs, just enthusiastic and happy to join in! You are welcome also to combine with other institutions to make it a joint effort! Accommodation in Auckland is provided. Please let us know if you require assistance in regard to transportation to and from Auckland. You do not need to confirm the names of team members to complete the nomination, so you can sign up now and choose your team members later.
Nominations close soon so don’t miss out! This is your opportunity to promote New Zealand and your institution internationally without having to leave the country to do it! Click HERE to fill out the nomination form.

| Russia Sending More Funded Students Abroad |
|
|
|
The Russian government has announced plans to fund up to 10,000 students a year to study abroad at the world's leading universities.
The Russian Ministry of Education expects most of the students to go to the United States. But others will go to universities in Australia, Europe and elsewhere. Under the terms of the initiative, participants will be required to return to Russia to work after completing their studies.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said: "Thousands of our young scientists, engineers and public officials will receive masters and doctoral degrees at the world's leading universities during the next decade. Hopefully, studying abroad will allow them to take key positions in Russian business, government, science and education."
Under the plan 2,000 Russian students will be able to enrol in foreign universities from 2012, rising to up to 10,000 in 2015. The first year of the initiative will cost an estimated USD$60 million.
During the initial years of the programme, students will be able to choose their courses by themselves. But the government in future years may introduce requirements for places to be filled in particular subjects to produce specialists in demand, such as engineers, lawyers and economists.
